Gardeners in Mayfield and the surrounding area enjoy social gatherings showing off prize specimens and listening to fascinating horticultural talks all through the work of Mayfield Horticultural Society (MHS).
The MHS is a hub of activity on everything horticultural and more! Our Summer Show is held at Mayfield’s Memorial Hall, the show goes beyond flowers, fruit & vegetables, and includes sections on cooking, arts & crafts, photography, floral art, and children’s exhibits.
Our Show is open to members and non-members alike so even if you have not joined, please participate. The thrill of seeing a rosette against your entry is sure to please, and you can make friends and mingle over delicious teas & cake!
For when the days start drawing in, we offer an autumn/winter series of gardening talks, held in the Scout & Guide Hall covering everything from growing vegetables to the secrets of public gardens.
Bi-annually we hold a sit-down dinner in the autumn featuring a guest speak, and organise a summer outing to a famous garden. Additionally, another unmissable event is our plant sale, held in Mayfield High Street each May which creates a fantastic opportunity to buy plants, seedlings and products at knock-down prices.
Whilst we actively encourage everyone in Mayfield and the surrounding area to take part in our show (whether you’re a MHS member or not), nevertheless membership has its perks and certainly makes lasting financial sense.
Our membership lasts from March until February and for just £5, the MHS membership card provides you with free entry to our talks (charged to non-members at £2 each) and a tempting 10% discount off purchases from Millbrook Garden Centre (Jarvis Brook), Heathfield Ironmongers and Thorpe Garden Centre (near Horam). To join, or to renew, write to MHS membership secretary Louise Pitcher c/o Ferndale Cottage, West Street, Mayfield TN20 6BA (enclosing a cheque for £5 per member made out to Mayfield Horticultural Society).
We look forward to welcoming you!
